I WALKED BY THE RIVER TODAY,
A DIFFERENT ONE BUT THE SAME.
LIKE WATER
IS WATER
IS WATER
IS RAIN.
I SAT FOR WHILE
AND WATCHED THE FLOW RIPPLE PAST,
SMOOTH AND THEN BROKEN
AND THEN SLOW AND THEN FAST.
AND I SAW THAT IT DID NOT
GO PLACIDLY BY,
EVEN AND RHYTHMIC--
BUT WATER FIGHTING THE SKY.
WAVE UPON WAVE
THROWN UP BY THE BOTTOM,
ROCKS THERE TELLING WATER
THEY WON'T BE FORGOTTEN.
SWIRLING AND CURLING
THE RIVER MADE IT'S WAY DOWN,
NEVER STOPPING JUST DODGING
AND DANCING AROUND.
THE ROCKS ARE WEARING AWAY,
LITTLE AT A TIME
BUT STILL THERE A PRESENCE,
ALWAYS IN MIND.
THE RIVER'S NOT STOPPED,
IT FLOWS ON IT'S WAY.
BUT WHAT SHAPE IT TAKES THERE,
THE ROCKS HAVE A SAY.
